Dr. Mark Dillon is an orthopedic surgeon in Carmel and Indianapolis specializing in the treatment of shoulder injuries and elbow disorders. He has a special interest in shoulder replacement surgery including reverse shoulder replacement. He also specializes in soft tissue injuries such as tendon and ligament injuries of the shoulder and elbow, including many sports-related injuries. He uses minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques to treat rotator cuff tears, shoulder dislocations, and elbow injuries.

Dr. Dillon specializes in soft tissue injuries such as tendon and ligament injuries of the elbow.

He is also able to treat many sports-related injuries. He uses minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques to treat rotator cuff injuries, shoulder dislocations and osteochondritis dissecans of the elbow.

Education & Research

A graduate of Stanford University, he received his MD from the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed his residency at Michigan State University Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies and completed an Ivy League fellowship in Shoulder & Elbow Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He was initially in practice at Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento, California for 14 years, where he helped care for the Sacramento Kings and was named to Sacramento Magazine’s Top Doctor list multiple times. He is involved in several orthopedic associations, including having been elected an Active Member to the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons in 2019.

Dr. Dillon is an extensively published researcher with a special interest in outcomes following shoulder replacement surgery. He is currently a member of the Steering Committee for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Shoulder and Elbow Registry. With over 40 peer reviewed publications, Dr. Dillon has had his research presented at meetings such as the Western Orthopaedic Association Annual Meeting, the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Annual Meeting, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Annual Meeting and the International Congress of Arthroplasty Registries Annual Meeting.

Dr. Dillon is also very active with teaching. As an assistant professor in the Indiana University Department of Orthopedic Surgery, he is involved with teaching resident physicians techniques in shoulder and elbow surgery as a core faculty member. He has given educational talks throughout the country and internationally. He currently serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and the Physician and Sports Medicine.
